The AutoZone Liberty Bowl presented a check in the amount of $126,121.12 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. AutoZone Liberty Bowl committee members and volunteers made the presentation to Rick Shadyac, CEO of ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital during a ceremony yesterday at St. Jude. The AutoZone Liberty Bowl has a long-running, year-round partnership with St. Jude. The Bowl showcases the life-saving work and mission of St. Jude in its various events and activities throughout the year. This year’s spectacular halftime show will honor St. Jude patients and the hospital’s 50th Anniversary, sending the St. Jude message to a national television audience on ESPN. In addition, the St. Jude message will also be highlighted in a special video presentation which will be shown during halftime of the ESPN telecast of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in December. Two of the brightest young coaches in the Memphis area will lead the teams in the 11th Annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Football Game. Chris Wiley, the head coach at Arlington High School, will coach the Blue Team. East High School head coach Marcus Wimberly will coach the Red Team. Chris Wiley is in his ninth year as head coach of the Arlington Tigers. In five seasons of varsity play, Wiley has led Arlington to the playoffs four times including an undefeated 10-0 regular season record in 2009. Wiley has a coached numerous players who have had success on the collegiate level including LSU's 1st Team All-SEC right tackle Alex Hurst. Marcus Wimberly is in his seventh season as head coach of the East Mustangs. Wimberly is a former East and University of Miami star. He was selected in the 5th round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. He has led the Mustangs to four playoff appearances since becoming the head coach in 2006. During Wimberly's tenure, East has produced many talented players such as Brian Kimbrow (RB, Vanderbilt) and Brandon Ivory (DL, Alabama). The All-Star Game will feature the top 84 players from Memphis City Schools, Shelby County Schools and private schools within Memphis, Shelby County, Fayette County and Tipton County. The game will be played Saturday, December 8 at Memphis University School. Kickoff is at 2:30 pm. Tickets cost $10, for kids 6 and under the cost is $5.
